What's on Council's agenda: May 7

Airdrie council will meet at 1 p.m. on May 7 for its regular council meeting.
City council met April 3 and declared April 15 to 21 Nation Volunteer Week in Airdrie.

The May 7 council meeting kicks off with four proclamations, including Alberta Disability Services Professional Appreciation Week of May 20 to 26, Guillain-Barré Syndrome/Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy Awareness month this May, Economic Development Week of May 6 to 10, and National Public Works Week of May 19 to 25.

Following the proclamations is information provided on the Acts and Regulations that govern supportive living and residential facilities.

Council will then address the 2024 Annual Tax Rate Bylaw and is asked to provide three readings.

Three agenda reports are set to come forward, starting with a request to support the Airdrie Public Library's application to the Community Initiatives Program for $75,000 in funding. These funds would help build the Library's diverse collection of resources to support the community’s information and entertainment needs.

Council will then be asked to support the Circle Connections for Reconciliation Society’s application to the Calgary Foundation Neighbour grant for $10,000. These funds will go towards their planned National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration on June 21 at Nose Creek Park in Airdrie.

Lastly, council is provided with information regarding traffic volume changes and redistribution due to the completion of the 40th Avenue Interchange and 40th Avenue widening projects, and how these impacts have affected traffic signalization projects for 2024. Council will be asked to endorse a scope change to re-allocate funds from the 2024 Capital Budget towards alternate traffic signal locations.

Business arising from council committees include chair updates from the Community Safety and Social Services committee, the Community and Corporate Services committee, and the Community Infrastructure and Strategic Growth committee.

Councillor Spearman gave notice that a motion will be made to direct Administration to use an external consultant to determine implementation options and costing to conduct an analysis of Council members' time, duties, compensation and roles as elected officials for official municipal matters.

The City Manager will then update council on the progress of resolutions and inquiries of Council.

The following closed meeting starts at 4 p.m. This agenda includes a report on the finalists for Mayor for a Day, a project update, and a funding update.
