The Airdrie Farmers Market has made a move to the Plainsmen Arena located at 320 Centre Ave., and is set to open June 5, from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. come rain or shine.
The market runs every Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. until Thanksgiving.
“We just outgrew our previous location,” said Market Manager Candice Kolson.
The new location will allow the market to bring in food trucks and will offer a new children’s park on site.
“We were looking for a place with a real community feel and once the remodel was completed at Jenson Park, we thought (the arena) would be perfect,” she said.
Kolson said the addition of food trucks at the new location has been something people have been asking for quite some time.
The market will be hosting a Food Truck Frenzy on June 19 with at least seven different food trucks from Calgary attending.
Kolson added the interest in the event is growing every day so she wouldn’t be surprised if more trucks registered to attend.
She asks residents planning to attend the June 19 event to bring a donation to the Airdrie Food Bank.
“Last year, the market was able to raise over $15,000 in food and monetary donations for the Airdrie Food Bank,” Kolson wrote in an email.
She said she there are too many vendors to name but there is something for everyone, with more than 60 vendors each week.
“Every week we rotate through so many different vendors so you never know who is going to be there.”
She added there will be some old favourites along with new vendors such as a bouncy castle for kids and mini-doughnuts.
Kolson reminds drivers to be watchful for children from nearby École Edwards Elementary School, which is still in session for the month of June.
She adds street parking is available all around the arena and does not require a permit.
