Seniors across Alberta are being recognized for their efforts and contributions to the province during Senior’s Week, being held on June 3 to 9.
The City of Airdrie has also recognized the week, and representatives from various organizations will collaborate to hold an afternoon event to celebrate Airdrie and area seniors on June 4 at the Town and Country Centre from 1 to 3 p.m.
“I just think it’s a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge and honour the seniors,” said Charlett Hedman, Coordinator of Senior’s Outreach at Community Links.
“(It’s important to) validate them for all the things they have contributed in their lifetime to their families and to their communities.”
The event will include refreshments and cake and door prizes donated by businesses and organizations in Airdrie. The Master of Ceremonies for the event will be Mayor Peter Brown.
Seniors from the community will also have the chance to entertain their peers musically, reflecting the 2013 Alberta theme for Senior’s Week, “Creativity and Inspiration.”
“Sometimes seniors don’t recognize that they’re an inspiration,” Hedman said.
“I can recognize that seniors are very creative and they are an inspiration.”
The two-hour event will accommodate about 230 seniors. Organizers are asking attendees to pre-register. For more information, call 403-945-3900
