Airdrie headed for major problems

Jul 02, 2010 06:00 am

Re: “Mayor asks Airdrie to be patient with growth,” June 25

Dear editor,

I take exception to the mayor’s comment that Airdrie’s growth has been phenomenal. In my opinion, a much more accurate description would be out of control and mismanaged.

It seems that projects are popping up here, there and everywhere. Some of the things you see seem to be out of place. It leads one to question if there is really planning going on. The perception is that the City of Airdrie planning department seems to be simply planning and responding to builders’ and developers’ requests.

It’s time for the City to get control of our development and slow things down. If they don’t get a grip on things, we are headed for major problems.

Victor Trcka, Airdrie

Based on the overcrowded schools meeting on June 24th Airdrie already has major problems. The Mayor just wants Airdrie to get bigger and bigger. But why? Do people choose to move into a community of 30,000 because they are hoping it will become a city of 100,000 or 250,000? Or do they choose a smaller center because they actually want to live in a small city rather than a big one.
