Airdrie needs more business, not more people
Re: “Long term pain for short term gain?” Editorial, Dec. 23
Dear Editor,
It’s nice to see the editors acknowledging the pain caused by growth and increased costs that will be deferred to future.
The most important thing to note is that the population growth is not required. Most Airdrie residents do not work in Airdrie so what Airdrie needs is more business and industrial development that employs people and offsets residential taxes. Airdrie does not need more people who demand more services, overcrowd schools and recreation facilities and cause taxes to increase. Every new home that goes up in Airdrie increases taxes for existing residents. New industrial and business developments provide local jobs and reduce taxes for residents.
Population growth is short term pain for even more long term pain in the future.
