Police Notebook: Airdrie RCMP remind residents about fee for false alarms
Between Jan. 20 and Jan. 22, the Airdrie RCMP were dispatched to 13 false security alarms. Four of those alarms were businesses and nine of them residential.
“The Airdrie RCMP would like to send out a reminder that there is an Airdrie City bylaw in place, titled False Alarm Fee, which addresses false alarms in our community,” said Const. Meagan Fillion.
“The fine for a residential infraction is $75 and the fine for a non-residential infraction is $125.”
Fillion said the police respond to a significant amount of false alarms and these numbers are about average.
The false alarm fee for a second and subsequent infraction within 12 months at the same alarm site is $150 for residential and $250 for non-residential.
Cable stolen
Sometime between noon on Jan. 22 and 5:45 p.m. on Jan. 23 an unknown suspects stole 250 feet of 1.5-inch heavy duty electrical cable from a job site in the King’s Heights neighbourhood. Police believe that the unknown suspects would have used a truck to transport the stolen goods due to the heavy weight of the cable. The approximate value of the wire is $3,000.
Ecstasy warning
Airdrie RCMP are warning residents to stay away from the street drug ecstasy following several deaths associated with the drug.
Ecstasy containing the chemical paramethoxy-methamphetamine (PMMA) has been linked to several recent deaths in the Calgary area. Drug experts have said that PMMA does not initially pack the same punch and effects people more slowly than methylenedioxmethamphetamine (MDMA), the compound commonly found in ecstasy, thus resulting in users taking more pills. They end up with a toxic overdose that causes body temperature to rise, resulting in permanent brain and organ damage. Airdrie RCMP are encouraging parents to discuss the issue with their children.
If you have information on any unsolved crime, phone Airdrie RCMP at 403-945-7200 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
