Registration for the Mayor's Run to open Feb. 1
Registration for the sixth annual Mayor’s Recreation for Life Run and Walk opens on Feb. 1.
This year’s race will be held on June 3 at Genesis Place.
“I want to thank Propak and all of our sponsors for the great support the Mayor’s Run has received over the past six years,” said Mayor Peter Brown. “I am very much looking forward to the run and supporting phase three of Genesis Place.”
Events include a five-km run and walk, a 10-km run, as well as a one-km family run/walk. There will also be free toddler races and lots of fun festivities for the whole family. All proceeds from this event will support phase three of Genesis Place, which includes a new twin arena. Interested participants can register online or pick up a registration form at City Hall or Genesis Place.
“Propak is pleased to be the title sponsor for the Mayor’s Recreation for Life Run 2012, this sponsorship reflects Propak’s commitment to support Airdrie community programs and initiatives,” said Barry Taylor, vice president of finance and administration for Propak Systems Ltd.
“We encourage everyone to participate in this fun event and help support the Genesis Place phase three expansion. Our thanks to the event organizers and volunteers and best wishes to all the participants for a wonderful event.”
New this year is a ‘Loop the Lake’ challenge for local businesses and ice user groups. There will be both a small and large corporate team category and also an ice user group team category.
“I encourage hockey players to come out and challenge both the ringette and skating clubs in the ice user group challenge because a percentage of the proceeds will go back to Airdrie Minor Hockey, Airdrie Ringette and Airdrie Skating Clubs for their arena funds,” said chair of the Airdrie Mayor’s Run Society Jodie Matsuba-Szucs.
Registration forms for the Corporate Team Challenge and the Ice User Group Team Challenge can be downloaded at www.airdriemayorsrun.com
Brown said Airdrie Mayor’s Run Society is expecting even greater participation this year and therefore the five-km and 10-km events will be capped.
“We encourage all to register early to avoid disappointment,” he added.
There will be many door prizes for registered participants and awards for top finishers in age categories for each event. Check out www.airdriemayorsrun.com for more details.
