City should re-evaluate handicap parking issue

Jan 25, 2012 04:13 pm

Re: “Council turns down handicap parking zone in Meadowbrook,” Jan. 18

Dear Editor,

I agree with R. Douglas Herdman in his request for a handicapped sign in front of his home. The only reason for having a handicap pass is for mobility issues thus the closer and more accessible parking is the easier it is for all involved. Whether he has a garage in the back or not should have no bearing on the issue. I have a handicapped pass for mobility issues and half the time, I cannot park in front of my own home.

My neighbours down the street have a party and we all have to park in the alley and try to walk or wheel into the house safely.

Mr. Herdman should appeal this decision but only after every council member who voted against it spends a week with a cane or in a wheelchair after a snowfall when the alley is sheer ice.

They will soon begin to understand the issues surrounding parking in front of your own home.
