Animal benefit initiative up and running

Feb 01, 2012 05:18 pm | Trevor Bacque

Global Pet Foods is holding its annual fundraiser to bring in much-needed dollars for homeless animals across the country until Valentine’s Day.

James Froese is the owner of two Global Pet Food locations in Airdrie and said this year’s goal is $2,000.

“Last year, we raised close to $1,000,” he said. “I’m hoping we can at least double that.”

If a person donates $1 at one of the stores, Global Pet Foods and Hill’s Science Diet will match the money for the two beneficiaries, Tails to Tell and the Wild Rose Humane Society. If a person donates $5 or more, they will receive bonus Air Miles.

“It’s local rescues that are looking for help,” said Froese. “There are so many animals that need homes. Rescue shelters are struggling to make ends meet. They’d really appreciate any donation that they’d make.”

All donations will be put to good use, according to Edna Jackson at Tails to Tell.

“We’re just absolutely excited about the whole thing,” she said. “We go through bags of food and our food bill is probably hitting around $1,200 a month just to feed dogs and cats.”

Global Pet Foods has two locations, 110, 400 Main Street NE and 115, 1800 Market Street SE. For more information, call 403 945-3663 or 403-980-8816.
