Mom tells her side of abduction story

Re: “No cause for alarm, say RCMP,” Jan. 27

Dear Editor,

I have a correction to the rumours in regards to the attempted abduction from A.E. Bowers School on Jan. 23 at 2:52 p.m. My daughter was walking home from school and a white van parked several metres back from the stop sign and the driver looked directly at her and motioned for her to come to him.

She shook her head but he did it again. She backed up and grabbed a street sign. She is very small for her age and so she is fully aware of the stranger’s intentions.

The stranger was driving a white van, a Chevy Venture 2000 year, with something hanging from the rear view mirror and tinted windows in back. He had round chubby cheeks that were wrinkled a little, dark sunglasses and a dark coat and dark hair.

Parents, we need to be concerned and need to educate young children. This stranger appears to be looking for a young child five or six years old.

My daughter came through the door white as a ghost, panic breathing, eyes wider than I have ever seen. She had a feeling he was following her. She does not make up stories and she was more concerned that he would get her friends, than for her own well being.

Synthia, Airdrie
