Police Notebook: Woman assaulted in Airdrie home

Airdrie RCMP is investigating a sex assault that took place, Feb. 10. A stranger attacked a woman in her Prairie Springs residence.

RCMP officers havenít said how the man gained access to the house, but said the victim was not alone during the assault.

No description of the man will be released until DNA testing is complete, RCMP said.

Gunman arrested

A Calgary man has been arrested in relation to an armed robbery case from last September.

The Regency Best Western Hotel on Edmonton Trail in Airdrie was robbed Sept. 14 and two men made off with a large sum of cash. Police found an escape vehicle, a red Dodge pick-up truck, a short distance away.

Troy Saunders, 34, of Calgary, is facing six charges including armed robbery and theft of a motor vehicle. Airdrie RCMP is still looking for the second suspect.

Fatal accident

A 53-year-old man is dead following a single-vehicle collision on Highway 2, Feb. 18. The incident occurred mid-afternoon when the male driverís truck went into the ditch, just north of the Highway 581 overpass.
