Local business seeks award nominations for pet foster families
Do you know a hero who works tirelessly to help homeless pets find a permanent home?
Until March 31, Global Pet Foods and Hill’s Science Diet are inviting Canadians to nominate outstanding animal shelter and rescue volunteers for the first Heroic Heart Pet Service Award.
“The incredible animal caregivers we meet during our annual Show Us Your Heart fundraiser inspired us to create the Heroic Heart Award. They are true unsung heroes who work tirelessly to love, care and protect pets in need,” said Jim Walker, President of Global Pet Foods.
Starting March 1 you can nominate a pet hero by filling out a ballot and sharing a brief story (250 words or less) on how the nominee has demonstrated outstanding care and compassion to homeless pets. Nominations can be made at Airdrie’s Global Pet Foods stores or online through Facebook.com/GlobalPetFoods.
James Froese, who owns the two Airdrie Pet Foods locations, said it is important to recognize the unsung heroes of the pet world.
“We want to recognize those in the community who go above and beyond to help pets find homes,” he said.
“It is a great way for those who quietly work behind the scenes to get public recognition for all they do.”
Froese said he knows a number of residents in the community who foster animals.
“They help pets in bad situations to get rehabilitated and ready for a new home,” he said.
“These people work with many organizations and help cats and dogs.”
He said he is hoping to get a few dozen entries.
Nominations will close March 31 and a panel of judges will review all nominees’ Heroic Heart stories.
Four award winners will be selected - with one recipient from each region of Canada: Western Canada, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada.
Heroic Heart award winners will receive a $250 spa package and a one-year supply of Hill’s Science Diet Pet Food, which will be donated to their shelter of choice.
The 2012 Heroic Heart Award winners will be announced in April, with an award presentation to follow at a local Global Pet Foods store.
