Forum a success
We were impressed with the conduct of both Airdrie residents and political hopefuls at the provincial forum at Bert Church Theatre on April 16.
This forum was the most civil, good-natured public political meeting any of us can remember.
With a wide array of viewpoints ranging from the Liberal party to the Wildrose, everyone treated each other with respect and courtesy.
The audience was entertained and even got a few laughs when candidates joked about themselves or at their political counterparts expense, but the important issues were covered and residents were given an inside look into each of the candidates’ platforms.
No residents were unruly or spoke out of turn and only one morally and politically loaded question was turned down by moderator Al Jones.
We are happy that residents, no matter what their political view, respected the fact that those five men had the courage and dedication to democracy to put their names forward.
Candidates stayed on topic and although some took issue with other parties’ political stance or policies, they did not stoop to personal attacks like we saw at other forums in the region.
We would like to thank the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce for hosting the forum and allowing residents to see their candidates in action.
We also give a pat on the back to Jones, who kept everyone in check and made sure the evening flowed smoothly. This will help Airdronians decide who to vote for on April 23.
Although we would always like to see more people at events like these, it is nice to see some residents who are actively involved in the political future of our province.
