The Airdrie Home & Lifestyle Show is celebrating its 35th year in Airdrie with a new name, April 28 and 29 at Genesis Place.

Much as the community of Airdrie has grown and changed over the years, so has the Airdrie Home & Lifestyle Show, which began as a Seed Fair in 1977.

The name change was based on feedback from guests and exhibitors.

“We wanted to have an event name that better reflected the great diversity of products and services that are featured at the Show,” said Marie Lauer, Airdrie Chamber of Commerce’s events coordinator.

“We have everything from golf to granite, from tea to travel and everything in between, so the show is much more than just home or garden related.”

Other changes have been made to the show to increase the value of guests’ experiences.

“We really focused on the experience we offer to our guests and we are confident that the changes we made will be well-received by the guests to the Show,” said Lauer.

This year organizers added a lifestyle demonstration stage, which features a diverse group of experts, who will entertain and educate guests.

The presenters, who will be on the stage every hour on both days of the show, bring a vast array of knowledge and energy to the show, covering a range of topics including fitness, nutrition, pets, finances, health, renovating and wine and beer making.

“We are thrilled to have such a great group of presenters on the lifestyle stage,” said Lauer.

Childcare will also be available on April 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., for the first time.

“We are excited to be working with Genesis Place on a pilot project to offer our guests child care for the Saturday Show,” said Lauer. Interested attendees can sign up for the service by calling 403-948-8804 extension 5512.

The Airdrie Chamber of Commerce produces this show and invites Airdrie residents to come out to “Connect, Explore and Shop” with more than 175 vendors.

“This is a great community event that links community and business,” said Lauer.

“Our show enables people to connect with businesses, volunteer groups, local government, friends and neighbours while exploring everything that Airdrie has to offer. This show features 42 new exhibitors this year.”

The entertainment stage will feature a mix of new and traditional performers.

“We are super excited to have a lot of new acts on our entertainment stage this year,” said Lauer.

“We love that we can provide the opportunity for local and upcoming performers to gain some experience and exposure at the show.”

The tradition of having local dance studios participate in the show will continue.

Monica Munro, an emerging singer/songwriter who brings together a magical blend of jazz, folk and pop will perform this year.

SLAM members Storm and Sharp Hill will perform.

Twisted Roots, whose repertoire ranges from sensitive ballads and love songs to humorous side-splitters and Celtic, both Airdrie high school jazz bands and Rocky View Schools’ choir will also perform.

Airdrie’s Mark’s is sponsoring a fashion show.

Attendees will also be eligible to win $12,000 worth of door prizes including a $1,000 shopping spree from Safeway, and several packages including a makeover, outdoor living, healthy living, top chef Airdrie, spring cleaning package, hi-tech heaven and a honey I’m home.

“We are very lucky to have a great business community in Airdrie and area,” said Lauer. “We have so many incredible door prizes.”
