Second Hershey's track meet in Airdrie a success

It was colder than usual, but the weather held out and Airdrie’s second annual Hershey’s Track and Field Meet went off without a hitch, May 10.

“It was good,” said Event Organizer Jodie Matsuba-Szucs. “It was cold as heck, maybe even colder than last year.”

Temperature aside, the event ran smoother and more efficiently this year, according to Matsuba-Szucs, thanks to more volunteers. McKee Homes was one of the event’s key sponsors and provided T-shirts for all of the participants.

“They helped us purchase (Hershey) T-shirts so that every kid went home with a T-shirt,” said Matsuba-Szucs. “Normally, at events like this, you’d go and you wouldn’t get anything except for a ribbon for your event. (The shirts) make it a little more special for the kids.”

About 200 kids participated in the various events and 75 advanced onto provincials, held June 16 and 17 in Edmonton.

Boys (nine to 10 years):

Girls (nine to 10 years):

• Skylar Menks – 3rd 50-metre, 4th 200-metre, 4th softball throw

• Megan Metcalfe – 1st standing long jump, 3rd 200-metre, 4th 50-metre

• Jasmine Szucs – 1st 100-metre, 1st 400 metre

• Jamie McKinnon – 2nd 200-metre, 3rd 100-metre

• Aiden McDonald – 2nd softball throw, 4th 400-metre
