One of the valuable services Airdrie Public Library (APL) provides to the community at large is offering a wide variety of technical help and expertise.

This comes in the form of computer courses, one-on-one technology training, easily accessible databases and, of course, books and other publications.

We have been very happy to be able to offer computer classes, the most recent of which, our Beginners Computer Course, winds up this week.

This course proved to be quite popular, so following on that success, we will be offering an Intermediate Computer Course, running Wednesday evenings through June, which will focus on such topics as Microsoft Word, Internet safety, social networking (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest), and photo and file management. You’ll have to hurry if you’re interested, though, as there is only one spot left in the class.

But don’t worry if you miss out – we’ll be offering more courses in the fall.

When it comes to more specific instruction, our one-to-one technology service provides half an hour with one of our knowledgeable computer tutors or information staff members.

These experts can help with questions on technology or research; software, such as Microsoft Office, Mango Languages and Kurzweil; email; e-book readers; and much more.

This service is not, however, designed to deal with computer repairs or hardware troubleshooting.

Appointments are available Tuesdays, 10 to 11:30 a.m.; Wednesdays, 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Thursdays, 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Call 403-948-0600 or visit www.airdriepubliclibrary.ca to book. A library card is required.

As for printed or digital material, the list is virtually endless.

Along with digital databases, our online catalogue can be of great service in tracking down what it is you need. And our staff is always there to answer questions and assist in your search.
