First Crossfield tech night a huge success
Dear Editor,
Congratulations are in order for the hard-working staff and administration at W.G. Murdoch High School in Crossfield for their successful technology night on May 9.
I appreciate that teachers and students took the time to actively demonstrate the kinds of technologies that are being used in the high school. I am a parent of elementary-school-aged children and found it informative and inspirational to see how they will be learning in the coming years.
Grade 4 teachers from Crossfield Elementary School were on hand to present Wiki pages to parents, and there were several technology presentations offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Parents also volunteered to bring delicious snacks and help with set-up and take-down and other behind-the-scenes tasks.
I believe the parent councils from both schools were involved in the planning for this night and I applaud them for their innovative ideas.
I’m proud to live in Crossfield and to be part of Rocky View School Division, which is forward-thinking when it comes to technology. Prezi, Moodle, podcasting, Flickr and drawing tablets were foreign concepts to me until I saw them in action at the tech night, and I came away inspired and intrigued by how technology will factor into the education of my children in the future.
I love that our high school wanted to show parents and community members what this technology is all about.
Thank you to everyone who gave of their time and talents to make the first tech night such a success. I’m already looking forward to the next one.
Julianne Harvey, Crossfield
