Cause of deaths of Airdrie family confirmed

Police have confirmed the cause of the deaths of an Airdrie family found in rural Saskatchewan, May 28.

The deaths of Hayley Wourms, 23, and Cayden Wourms, 2, were ruled as homicides. Twenty-six-year-old Darren Wourms’ death has been classified as a suicide. Police have confirmed a .22-calibre rifle seized from near the bodies, discovered in a roadside ditch near St. Walburg, was used in all three deaths.

Airdrie police have stated Darren was recently released from a Calgary hospital where he was undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. The young father and husband was scheduled to return to the hospital for a follow-up appointment the day the bodies were discovered by a passerby.

Prescription forgery

Airdrie RCMP have charged a local woman with 95 Criminal Code violations, including prescription forgery, after she allegedly attempted to fill prescription at a local pharmacy.

Airdronian Heather Oosterhuis, 31, is charged with forgery, uttering a forged document, identity theft and theft.

After an investigation that began in March, RCMP officers believe Oosterhuis targeted 10 local pharmacies to obtain prescription medication.

The prescriptions were passed between the months of September 2011 and March 2012.

According to police, 45 prescriptions were forged for a total of 3,500 tablets of Tylenol 3.

Vehicle parts stolen

Sometime during the night of May 29 to 30, unknown suspects broke into a Balzac business compound and allegedly stole $24,000 worth of vehicle parts.

Police believe the suspects used a reciprocating saw to cut the exhaust systems out of two Dodge Ram three-quarter ton diesel trucks.
