Athletes attend track meet

Local track athletes competed at the Hershey’s Provincial Track and Field Meet, which was held at Foote Field in Edmonton, June 16 and 17.

A.E. Bowers Elementary School sent five relay teams to the meet, and all five teams came home with a top five finish.

In the nine- and 10-year-old girls’ category, the team of Cliah Joyce, Jocelynn Pearce, Cassandra Blondeau and Jasmine Szucs won gold, and in the 11- and 12-year-old boys’ category, the team of Jacob Aulin, Yechan Lee, Cole McEachern and Jalen Greenridge also placed first.

The school claimed three top five finishes in the nine- and 10-year-old boys’ category. The team of Rylan Walker, Rhys Yakiwchuk, Alex Stoesz and Jesse Guilderson placed first. Third place went to the team of Thomas Beatty, Ethan Horton, Adam Torry and Ethan Tran, while fourth place was awarded to the team of Alex Caissy, Jack Duff, Alex Nelson and Hayden Wright.

The Airdrie Aces Atheltics Club also participated at the provincial meet. Szucs, Aulin and Isaiah Richards all qualified for the 100-metre final and participated in the Donovan Bailey Track Classic, and each finished seventh in the province in their respective age categories.

Szucs also placed second in the nine- and 10-year-old girls’ 400-metre event, while teammate Brooklyn Brabant placed sixth in the 11- and 12-year-old girls’ 400-metre. Isaiah Richards placed seventh in 13 to 14-year-old boys’ 200-metre dash.

Scott Chalupiak and Connor Good both competed in the 13 to 14-year-old boys’ 800- and 1,600-metre runs. Chalupiak placed second in the 800-metre and third in the 1,600-metre, while Good placed seventh in both events.

ADSA Soccer

The Airdrie and District Soccer Association (ADSA) held its U10 and U12 Developmental Tournament at Monklands Park, June 16 and 17.

The Airdrie FC (Wellspring) placed sixth in the U10 boys’ ‘B’ category, while the Airdrie FC Aztecs (Buckley) placed seventh. In the girls’ U10 ‘B’ division, the Airdrie FC (Grieve) placed second, and the Airdrie FC Aztecs (Seaman) placed third.

The Airdrie FC U12 boys tier II team took fourth, and the U12 girls tier II team placed second.
