Home Hardware expands to new location

The home building store formerly located on East Lake Crescent for more than 45 years has a new home.

On June 25, Home Hardware opened its 40,000-square-foot building at 35 Market Blvd. in the City’s southeast. The previous 12,500-square-foot store was located at 211 East Lake Cres. since 1965.

The new store is almost three times the size of the old one, resulting in the hiring of 40 new employees and expanded product lines.

“(We built the new store) primarily because the old location was outdated,” said Mike Fulton, owner of the store.

“We wanted to have a larger offering of retail goods and materials.”

The former building was primarily a lumber yard, but the new location has expanded into a full-service store.

“We were just a home building centre. Now, we are a Home Hardware Building Centre,” said manager Clark Jackart. “We needed more room.”

“It’s what got us to where we are today, we have just outgrown it,” Fulton said.

The new location includes seasonal goods, an expanded paint department and interior decorating products. It also features themed rooms offering inspiration for interior decorating.

“There is a large area dedicated to home decor for decorating home and living spaces,” Jackart said.

“They are decorated with pictures, little trinkets, clocks, vases. Each room has its own theme.”

He added that the store will maintain what customers have come to love about the old location, while providing a wider assortment to attract new customers.

“We are still maintaining our extensive lumber and building material product lines, and we will have a good selection of hand and power tools,” Fulton said.

Both Jackart and Fulton are happy with how the new location has been received so far.

“People love the store. They walk in and go ‘Wow,’” Jackart said.

“We’re doing it bigger and better.”
