Airdrie A's play in championship
Sport Shorts:
Three Airdrie A’s baseball teams played for the district 3 championship at Fletcher Field in Airdrie, June 27.
The Airdrie AA Majors (11 to 12 years) lost to Foothills of Calgary.
Two Airdrie A’s minor teams played each other in the other championship game, but results were not available at press time.
The Majors also went 5W-0L and defeated a team from Regina 6-4 in the final of the Majors’ home tournament, which was held June 29 and July 2 in Airdrie.
Silvertips
The Rockyview Silvertips played its third of four road games against the Jr. Mounties at the Brentwood Arena in Calgary, July 3. The team’s next home game is July 8 against the Manitoba Gryphons. Game time is 4 p.m. at the Pete Knight Arena in Calgary
Knights
The Airdrie Knights bounced back from a 13-7 loss to the Calgary Sr. Mounties with a 9-7 win over the St. Albert Sr. Miners, July 1. The Knights’ most recent home game was against the Okotoks Sr. Raiders, July 4, at the Ron Ebbesen Arena. (Results were not available at press time).
Rage
The Rocky View Rage bantam girls’ lacrosse team won the Alberta Lacrosse Association’s (ALA) provincial bronze medal, July 1.
The team dropped its first two games to the Sherwood Park Titans and the Okotoks Mustangs, but defeated the Edmonton Warriors 7-3, June 30.
It defeated the Warriors again for the bronze medal by a score of 5-2.
Rodeo
Several local cowboys finished in the top 10 at the Ponoka and Williams Lake Stampedes over the Canada Day long weekend. Airdrie team ropers Jeff Robson and Klay Whyte finished second in Williams Lake, bringing in $2,171.
Matt Lait, formerly of Balzac, who competed in the bareback events at both rodeos, finished fourth in the bareback in Ponoka and eighth in Williams Lake.
Tanner Milan of Cochrane placed second in Ponoka’s steer wrestling competition, bringing in $1,500 and followed it up with a fifth-place finish in Williams Lake.
