Airdrie's unique car show set for another year of fun in the sun

The Time Travellers Car Club will be ‘Doing it on the Grass’ at its Summer Classic Car Show in Nose Creek Park, Aug. 11.

The show, which attracts hundreds of classic automobiles each year, has become an annual stop for car enthusiasts in Southern Alberta, as Airdrie’s show is the only one in Alberta held on the grass in a large public park.

“There is something nice about a polished-up piece of steel sitting on freshly cut grass,” said Time Travellers Car Club Vice President Greg Wing.

Most car shows are held on streets or in large parking lots, which can get hot in the early August sun, but the shaded park gives spectators and car owners alike an opportunity to view in cool comfort.

There is no charge for people to attend, but the club is asking anyone who would like to wander through the park during the show to bring a food bank donation.

In addition to a food bank collection, other local charities will benefit as proceeds from food vendors the silent auction and 50/50 will be donated to local causes.

“What we have done this year is we are looking for a couple of local charities to apply for the benefits,” Wing said. “

Wing said the show is special for every member of the Time Travellers Car Club because they love sharing their passion for their cars with spectators.

“The biggest satisfaction for us is watching others enjoy our cars too,” said Wing.

Registration for entrants is $10, and it is open from 8 a.m. until noon on the day of the event. The show is open to the public from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
