Balzac-area collision stops morning traffic
Police Notebook:
The driver of a 1994 Nissan Altima was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle collision on southbound Highway 2 near Balzac, Aug. 14.
Airdrie RCMP responded to the collision, which also involved a loaded semi-truck with a 53-foot trailer, around 8 a.m.
Two lanes of southbound traffic were closed for about one hour to allow officers to conduct their investigation and clear debris from the scene.
The cause of the collision was undetermined at press time, but distracted driving is believed to have been a factor.
Crossfield collision
Charges have been laid against a 30-year-old woman after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 2 north of Crossfield on Aug. 12. Airdrie RCMP were called to the scene at about 8:48 p.m. RCMP determined the woman, who was driving a 1997 Honda Odyssey, lost control and struck a Ford F-350 truck while attempting to merge onto southbound Highway 2 from the Acme Road overpass.
According to an RCMP press release, road conditions were unfavourable with heavy rain and hail in the area affecting visibility.
There were three people in the two vehicles involved in the collision.
No one was injured.
Charges have been laid against the Drayton Valley woman who was driving the Odyssey.
