Supplies 4 Success backpacks available at Community Links

Families in need can now pick up backpacks full of school supplies from Airdrie’s Community Links, located at 112 First Ave.

The pencil-, paper- and pen-filled backpacks have been made available through the Supplies 4 Success program, a partnership between the Airdrie Lioness Club and Community Links that has provided back-to-school necessities to families in need for 10 years.

“Going back to school can be very difficult for families,” said Glenda Alexander, Supplies 4 Success’ program organizer. “I think it is so important for kids to have the opportunity to be able to be confident when they go back to school and concentrate on learning. I am hoping that this program has made some difference in children’s lives.”

This year, once again, Airdrie’s Staples stepped up as Supplies 4 Success’ major sponsor.

“We would not be able to help so many without the dedication of the management, staff and customers of the Airdrie Staples store,” said Alexander, adding Staples staff began asking customers in June if they would like to donate to the program.

“The response is overwhelming and their generosity proves that Staples customers believe that every child needs to start school with a backpack full of necessary supplies,” said Alexander. “We thank each and every one who has contributed to our ability to fill 220 backpacks this year.”

Alexander said Staples is still taking donations of cash and school supplies for the program until the middle of September and she encourages residents to take part.

“If they want to make a difference in a child’s life and help provide them with an opportunity for learning, every little bit helps,” she said.

Airdrie and area families in need can visit the Community Links building to receive backpacks filled with supplies specific to children attending kindergarten, grades 1 to 4, grades 5 to 8 and grades 9 to 12.

For more information on donating or qualifying for a backpack, contact Alexander at 403-828-2552 or visit Community Links.
