Airdrie Public Library celebrating ARTember with activities, events

ARTember is rapidly approaching and Airdrie Public Library (APL) is looking forward to being part of the fun.

ARTember at the library starts off Sept. 15 with our regular Junior Artists program for youngsters ages nine to 12.

This session we welcome painter Tami Hort Lathwell, who will share her experience and expertise with participants.

The session runs 1 to 2:30 p.m. Registration is required and there is a $3 fee.

On Sept. 16, families are invited to our regular Sunday Cinema.

The movie will run 1:30 to 3 p.m. and no registration is required.

Next up is an evening of spoken word poetry with our Writers Club on Sept. 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., followed by a digital camera workshop with Airdrie photographer Rod Wood on Sept. 20, 6 to 7:30 p.m.

This hands-on workshop is intended for adults, and registration is required.

On Sept. 21 from 7 to 9 p.m., APL kicks off our fall author series with Marina Endicott, who will be sharing from her latest novel, The Little Shadows.

The evening will be punctuated by a wine-and-cheese reception, and registration is required.

September 22 is all for the children.

At 10 a.m., a one-hour videoconference with the Amon Carter Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, will feature a fun and engaging art program entitled “So You Think You Know What You Saw.”

The videoconference is aimed at children in grades 1 to 8. Registration is required.

Then from 1 to 2:30 p.m., photographer Rod Wood will be back for another Junior Artists session. This time he will be working with youth, ages nine to 12, on their digital photography skills.

There is a $3 fee and registration is required.

September 23, is all about the big screen, as APL hosts a National Film Board of Canada Mini Film Fest.

September 26, 7 to 8 p.m., ARTember at the library wraps up with a writers workshop with our Writers Club.
