Theatre-goers are in for a treat during the fifth annual Alberta Culture Days, a province-wide celebration of the arts, heritage, cultural diversity and provincial pride, to take place from Sept. 28 to 30.

The Bert Church Live Theatre (BCLT) is offering three performances at almost half price for Airdrie and area residents.

“We are happy to celebrate the arts in Alberta,” said Dennis Tinkler, BCLT’s team leader. “It’s about collaboration and community celebration… and we want to make sure that our community and our patrons know that we have not only community partners, but provincial partners and we are all working together to create family and community events and make sure they are accessible to those that want to (see them).”

John Wort Hannam, a folk singer and songwriter, will be performing on Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available for $10.50.

“We thought it was an ideal selection for us to feature … as (Hannam) is from Fort Macleod and he has a very successful career as a singer/songwriter,” said Tinkler. “He is a wonderful native-Albertan talent who has been very successful.. and is a very family friendly type of entertainer and does a lot of work within his own community. It seemed like a natural fit to have a native Albertan.”

Roman Danylo, a stand-up improviser and sketch comedian who is the star of Comedy Inc. featured on CTV and the Comedy Network, will perform on Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be $10.50 per person.

Tinkler is looking forward to the performance.

“He is one of this country’s premier stand-up comedians,” said Tinkler. “He is going on a tour of Alberta and we thought it would be wonderful to present something we have never offered before, which is a comedy act.”

According to Tinkler, Danylo’s show is appropriate for those ages 14 and older.

The final performer, Norman Foote, a Juno-award winning musician and children’s entertainer, will perform on Sept. 30 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets will be $5.25.

Tinkler said Foote will be collaborating with the R.J. Hawkey School choir during his show.

“Norman has been at it for many years and has come across great success, he is an absolutely wonderful children’s entertainer,” said Tinkler, adding Foote has never performed in Airdrie before.

Tinkler said he is looking forward to the shows.

“We have three performers who are very excited about playing in Airdrie for the first time,” said Tinkler. “Between the three of them, they offer a complete genre of entertainment, something for the kids, something for youth and (older) and something for the folkies.”

Tickets can be purchased online in advance by visiting www.thebertchurchtheatre.com or by calling the theatre box office at 403-948-8824.
