Local baseball player headed to Disneyworld for tournament

An Airdrie baseball player, who won a silver Western Championships medal with the Strathmore AAA Reds, will be heading south to play in Disneyworld over the Christmas holidays.

Kyran Weemaels, 15, will be playing in the Rawlings Gold Glove Award Classic with the Champions Baseball Academy, which is based out of Cincinnati, Ohio. The tournament will take place Dec. 26 to 30 at the ESPN Wide World of Sport Complex in Osceola, Fla.

Weemaels’ family is looking for support in the form of recyclable bottles or monetary donations to help fund the trip.

Airdrie Xtreme

The Airdrie Xtreme opened the 2012-2013 season with back-to-back losses against the Red Deer Rebels.

The team lost 3-4, Sept. 15, on the road to the Red Deer Rebels White with Jordan McConnell, Adam Tisdale and Gary Haden scoring for Airdrie.

Tisdale also scored in a 3-5 home loss, Sept. 16, to the Red Deer Rebels Black. Andrew Fyten netted two goals, as well.

The Airdrie Xtreme’s next home game will be on Sept. 23 against the Southeast Hockey Hounds. Game time is 1 p.m. at the Ron Ebbesen Arena.

Airdrie BMX

Several riders with the Airdrie BMX club returned from the Provincial Championships and the Alberta Cup, which were held Sept. 8 and 9 in Calgary.
