October is upon us, and Airdrie Public Library (APL) has a wide variety of events, activities and programs on the go this month.

Along with our regular One-on-One Technology Tutoring service – half-hour appointments Tuesday mornings 10 to 11:30 a.m. and Thursday evenings 7 to 7:30 p.m. – we are also offering special Computer Skills courses for those who are new to the digital world or simply want to brush up on their knowledge. The classes begin with Computer Skills 1, which covers using the mouse and keyboard and will be offered Oct. 24, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Following this course are Computer Skills 2, which deals with file and folder management, Nov. 7, and Computer Skills 3, using the Internet, Nov. 14. These courses are free of charge, but registration is required.

New to APL, the Spanish for Travellers course began this week and runs to Nov. 20. This course provides the basics, such as greetings and introductions; telling time; asking directions (always handy when you are travelling); and other useful phrases for common situations. This course, too, is free, but registration is required.

Also starting up this month is a series of workshops from Airdrie Employment Services: Age as an Ally Oct. 20; followed by Social Media: Getting the Job You Want; and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator in November. Registration with Airdrie Employment Services is required to participate. More information on these workshops is available on our website at www.airdriepubliclibrary.ca

Continuing with our fall Adult Author Series, APL will welcome Martin Parnell, an inspirational endurance athlete who began running at age 47. The author of Marathon Quest will be our guest Oct. 26. Along with our special programming, we continue to offer numerous other programs for all ages, including more than 16 preschool literacy classes a week, both registration-required and drop-in. Older visitors are also welcome to take part in Junior Artists, for ages nine to 12; Tween Zone, for Grades 4 to 6; and Teens After Hours, for Grades 7 to 9. Family programs include Free Family Fun Saturdays and Sunday Cinema.

All the information on these programs and more is on our website, so take a browse and find what’s just right for you.
