London Drugs will officially open its Airdrie location on Oct. 24.

The 32,345-square-foot store is part of the Sierra Springs shopping development, which is located in the City’s southwest and includes Home Depot and Walmart.

“We are delighted to be coming to the booming City of Airdrie,“ said Wynne Powell, president and COO of London Drugs.

“We’ve witnessed the incredible growth of the area even in the months since we initially confirmed our plans. We’re looking forward to contributing to the positive momentum of the city.”

London Drugs includes a pharmacy, photographic services, computers, audio-video systems, consumer electronics, health and beauty products, and cosmetics and fragrances.

“Airdrie residents we have spoken to are excited and thrilled we will be on site,” said Colleen Lancaster, Airdrie store manager.

“We are so delighted to finally come to the city of Airdrie. We have employees that have been waiting for 15 years for this location to open. We are super thrilled to be here.”

The Airdrie store will be one of the chain’s new concept stores, which include “a compelling shopping experience.” The design of the store features a classroom that will be used for educational events for customers on a variety of topics including photography, cosmetics, health care and computers.

“It is a modern and compelling shopping experience,” said Lancaster.

“We will be providing short classes on aspects of every department in the store, such as how to use a digital camera. The Airdrie store is the first to have this classroom.”

The opening of the Airdrie store will bring more than 60 new jobs locally ranging from entry-level to managerial.

“We are trying to fill a number of positions so feel free to visit the London Drugs website or stop by the store to drop off your resume,” she said.

The store will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Oct. 24 and a grand opening on Oct. 27. The weekend event will include festivities, giveaways, product sampling and sales on a number of items.
