Multi-talented athlete recognized by Special Olympics Airdrie
Airdrie’s Eddie Watts, 31, has been named Special Olympics Airdrie’s Athlete of the Month for October.
Watts competes in bowling, softball and floor hockey with the Special Olympics, and says his favourite part of competing is scoring goals.
Watts’ favourite sport he competes in is bowling. He has been a player for 18 years and he recently scored his first turkey, which is three strikes in a row.
Wearing an Anaheim Ducks NHL jersey, Watts took part in the weekly floor hockey evening at Airdrie Middle School and was recognized as this month’s Athlete of the Month.
“He has done baseball, and wants to try golfing in the future, if they ever get that program in,” said Watt’s mother Wendy Corrigan. “Eddie really looks forward to Monday night bowling.”
Corrigan said recognition is important to the athletes.
“He really like being out with his buddies and peers,” she said. “Getting that recognition and seeing his photo in the paper is great. He gets to send his picture to his grandpa now.”
