Thunder win back-to-back games in tripleheader hockey action

After a 5-4 overtime loss to the Blackfalds Wranglers, Oct. 19, the Airdrie Thunder bounced back and won two games in a row over the Stettler Lightning, Oct. 20, and the Banff Hockey Academy, Oct. 21.

The 4-2 win over the Lightning featured goals from Gavin Klein, Dylan Johnston, Donavon Henrion and Justin Millson and the 4-3 victory in Banff saw Henrion score his third of the weekend, as he also scored against Blackfalds. Daniel Hounjet, Marcus Cheng and Taysen Holt added tallies against Banff.

Alex Hustad, Holt and Matthew Flette were the goal scorers in the overtime loss. The team’s next home game with be Oct. 26 at the Ron Ebbesen Arena against Okotoks. Game time is 8 p.m.

AC Avalanche

The AC Avalanche extended a winning streak to three games with a 4-3 win over CRAA Blue, Oct. 1. Troy VanTetering, who is the team’s leading scorer and third in league scoring added his secong goal of the season, bringing his point total to 10. Chad Harrison, who is trailing VanTetering by only one point added a goal and an assist in the win.

Austin Cameron and Ty Milligan also added markers while Colton Reid had two helpers.

The Avalanche’s next home games will be Oct. 27 when it takes on the Southeast Hounds and Oct. 28 when it hosts the CBHA Rangers. The Hounds game will be at 5:15 p.m. and the Rangers game will be at 2:15 p.m., both at the Totem Arena in Cochrane.

Track and Field

The Rocky View Sports Association (RVSA) held its annual fall middle school track and field meet, Oct. 4, at the Foothills Athletic Park in Calgary.

RVSA Volleyball

With playoffs around the corner, the RVSA senior and junior volleyball teams completed Week Six action, Oct. 17.

The final week of regular season play took place Oct. 24 (after press time) and determined the playoff matchups. In all four divisions, there was a pair of crosstown rivalry games with Bert Church and George McDougall facing off and Bow Valley taking on Cochrane.

The junior girls and boys Chestermere Lakers played Beiseker, as did the senior girls. The senior girls Springbank Phoenix played W.G. Murdoch.
