Annual Artisan Christmas market set to return

Nov 15, 2012 01:33 pm | Dawn Smith

Residents searching for a unique, handmade gift are invited to the sixth annual Airdrie Artisans Holiday Market, Dec. 1.

The market will take place at the Airdrie Town and Country Centre, located at 275 Jensen Drive Northeast from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event will feature more than 50 Airdrie and area vendors, including jewelry makers, photographers, artists, crafters and sewers.

“There is a very strong art and artists community (in the area),” said Jane Romanishko, event organizer. “There is beautiful stuff and it is right there in your backyard. Just check it out.”

Entrance to the market is $2 or a donation to the food bank. Volunteers from the Boys and Girls Club of Airdrie will also be on hand to assist organizers and vendors.

Romanishko said it is important to support art and artisans.

“Art is useful for communities and (local) artists support many (events),” she said. “Now it’s time for the community to support artists and artisans.”

Romanishko added organizers are still looking for vendors to take part in the market. Table rental fee is $80 and application can be made online at www.airdrieschoolofart.com under the events tab.

Lori McRitchie, executive director of the Airdrie Food Bank, said she is pleased the market will support the local charity.

“It’s another display of how the community comes together to support us and as always we are thrilled with that,” she said. “It’s awesome.”

McRitchie encourages residents to attend the market.

“We have incredibly talented artists in this community that do wonderful work,” she said. “If you are looking for unique, handmade items that supports our community, please go. You won’t find better quality (work) anywhere.”

For more information about the market, contact Romanishko at 403-560-0894.
