Members wanted for library's new advocacy group
A newly formed committee with aims to help promote the Airdrie Public Library (APL) is looking for members.
The library is hosting a A meeting will be held Nov. 16 from 6:30 30 p.m. to 8 :p.m. at the library to inform the public interested members of the public about theof the group’s goals.
“The main focus will be on the new facility project,” explained Bibiana Cala, APL’s community relations and volunteer coordinator with the library, who said the building has become very crowded and a larger, new facility building is now neededcessary.
The committee will begin start brainstorming ideas for fundraising opportunities this year and will start implementing the ideas next year, she said. The goal is to relocate within three to four years.
“We need as many members as we can,” said Cala.
The group needs at At least four people ages 18 and over are needed for theto form the executive, as well as and a number of volunteers of all ages to help with activities and programs. Anyone interested in becoming part of the executive needs to be 18 or older. Volunteers can be younger.
“We’re looking for people in the community who like the community and want to help the library,” said Cala.
The formation of the Advocates started last March when people in the library recognized the need for a larger facility. Since then, volunteers have stepped up to help obtain official society status, which the group received in . The group received status in September.
“It’s important people realize that the library is an important centre in town,” said Cala. “People think it’s just books, . Bbut it’s also a gathering place, a resource and provides opportunities.”
She said part of the Advocates responsibilities will also be to promote the library and the programs and resources it provides.
