Kodiaks heading to 2A volleyball Provincials

The St. Martin de Porres High School varsity boys volleyball advanced to the 2A Provincials.

The team defeated West Island College 2-0, but lost 0-2 to Calgary Christian The Kodiaks were given the wild card spot for the Calgary zone.

The provincial qualifiers were held Nov. 9 at Calgary Academy.

Provincials will be held Nov. 22 to 24 in Kiscoty.

The team also won its quarterfinal match in the Calgary Senior High School Athletics Association (CSHSAA) against James Fowler, Nov. 13, 3-0. The Kodiaks played Notre Dame in the semi-finals, which were held after press time on Nov. 15.

The junior boys defeated John Diefenbaker High School 3-0 in its first playoff game and played Crescent Heights in the semi-final, Nov. 14 (after press time).

On the ladies’ side, the junior girls lost 3-0 to James Fowler, Nov. 12.

Airdrie Xtreme

The Xtreme defeated the Lethbridge AAA Hurricanes 5-2, Nov. 10. Brandon Schuldhaus, Noah Philp, Jared Janke, Brett Trentham and Jordan McConnell were the goal scorers for the Xtreme, while McConnell added an assist to his point total and Andrew Fyten recorded two assists.

The Xtreme return home Nov. 24 for it takes on the Calgary Northstars. Game time is 7:15 p.m. at the Ron Ebbesen Arena.

In the mean time, the team will compete at the Medicine Hat Hockey Hounds Bantam AAA Tournament, Nov. 15-18.

AC Avalanche

The AC Avalanche recorded its first win of November with a 6-2 win over the CRAA Gold, Nov. 10.

Troy VanTetering scored his seventh and eighth goal of the season, while Chad Harrison, Kyle Antochow, Zach Giroux and Ryan Barrow each added a single tally. Giroux also recorded a single assist, while Kris LeClair had two points, as well.
