What to do if you and your husband are not getting along
My husband and I have been arguing a lot and I am not sure if I want to be with him or not. This has been making me feel unhappy and I don’t know what to do. Should I express this with my spouse? How do I talk to him and let him know how I am feeling?
Thank you for your question; this is definitely something that I get asked often, especially recently. If you are feeling unhappy, it is important for you to think about why that is happening: Is it your spouse? Is it something between the two of you that isn’t working? Or is it something about you? Secondly, I want to reiterate how important communication is in relationships. Even if the feelings of unhappiness are not directly related to something that your partner is or isn’t doing, it is still important to communicate your feelings. One unhappy partner in a relationship impacts the other, and likely your spouse knows that something is wrong but is unsure of how to ask or what to say. Talk to you partner in a way that is not blaming and uses “I” messages. Lastly, if you feel that you are unable to find a neutral environment or time to talk to him, or are unsure about how to begin the conversation, then it would be helpful for you to seek a counsellor’s guidance.
I would like to increase my social network and also start dating for my New Year’s resolution. Where can I start?
I can understand how difficult and uncomfortable it can be to try to put yourself out there and create new relationships and new friendships. There any many ways meet new people, things such as volunteering, taking classes, or just going somewhere new. Being open to new experiences, and saying “Yes” to an invite to something you wouldn’t normally do, will also put you in situations where you are more likely to meet new friends and a possible new partner. If you can, take a friend to go with you when you are trying out a new class, or checking out a new event. Keep an eye out for the various singles’ events that take place in both Airdrie and Calgary as many of them can be a great, fun way to meet new people. At the end of the day, you make it a fun experience!
