Airdrie Lynx Air Cadets to host murder mystery night

Jan 24, 2013 01:38 pm | By Sylvia Cole | Airdrie City View

The 88 Airdrie Lynx Air Cadets are hosting a murder mystery fundraiser at Killarney’s Irish Pub in Airdrie on Feb. 2.

This year’s event, which includes dinner, a silent auction and a game of murder mystery, will be the third hosted by the cadets.

“It will be tons of fun,” said Kathy Ruck, communications chair for the group.

This year’s theme is Club Al Capone: A night of money, murder and mystery and she said people should come dressed as their favourite gangster or flapper girl.

Ruck said besides the silent auction, there will be door prizes and a raffle for two tickets to anywhere WestJet flies.

Anyone 18 years and older, who would like to help support the cadets, is invited to the event.

Last year, they were able to raise $10,000 during the event and hope to make $15,000 at this year’s event.

All of the proceeds are going to the 88 Airdrie Lynx Air Cadet squadron to help fund things such as its educational tours; effective speaking competition, which asks cadets to present a prepared speech as well as an impromptu one; and FAM flying.

FAM flying is short for a familiarization flight and gives cadets the chance to go up in the air with a flight instructor and try flying an aircraft.

Tickets are $25 and include food and drink, 50/50 draws and door prizes. The event runs from 6:30 p.m. to midnight.

For tickets, call Chris or Nicole Haacke at 403-481-6709 or email fundraise@airdrieaircadets.ca

Cadets is open to youth ages 12 to 18 and offers the opportunity to learn more about the air element of the Canadian Forces, physical fitness, leadership and good citizenship.
