The statement that it is the owner and not the breed is 100 per cent true

Re: LTE “It is the breed, not the owner,” Jan. 18

Dear Editor,

It almost makes me sad and sick to think of all this fighting over a dog breed. I am the owner of a Staffordshire terrier (aka pit bull) with two children under four years old also. I would never once questions my dogs presence around my children. Anyone that has ever owned a dog knows that it is about knowledge of the breed and proper training. The statement that it is the owner and not the breed is 100 per cent true. Come to my house and see first hand that this is true. Maybe we as a community should have better laws on the off leash areas and proper training for the dogs that are going there.

My dog loves the ball so taking that away from her because someone thinks her breed should be punished is cruel.

Yes, the breed was trained for fighting and yes some people should not own the breed but you can’t punish all of us that are owners. Comparing a sex offender to a dog breed; is that even a close comparison? Come on, you’re just now pulling at any string you have. These are loving animals and if you just give them love, they will love you back 10 fold!

I really hope people use their heads before you make a decision that in my mind is cruel to all the loving owners that take the time to get to know their breed and love and care for them.
