Autumn Arson working on second album

Airdrie band Autumn Arson released its first album in the summer of last year and have already started work on its second full-length disc.

Autumn Arson is a four-piece band made up of frontman Stephen Jones, drummer Jesse Gautreau, bassist R.J. Graham and Jared Carswell on guitar.

Human Intellect for Polar Bears was released on iTunes on July 9 of last year and was on the shelves of local HMV stores shortly after.

Jones said that response from fans about the first album has been great and HMV sold out of the disc.

“We have heard nothing but good from the album. We know there are flaws, but when you do everything yourself you can’t be perfect,” said Jones.

“Seeing your art, your creation that you have spent so much time doing in a public store and even being told they sold out, but there are 10 on order, there is no word to describe how that feels to know your passion is being seen around the world.”

One of the biggest challenges to overcome putting together the second album is finding the time to start recording, as every member of the band has a day job.

“We have just gotten started, we only have three songs at the moment, but we will be doing an iTunes exclusive pre-release of those songs in the near future,” said Jones. “The toughest challenge in making this second album would be the fact that we are working as well. Time to record is very limited.”

Jones said that he hopes the band’s sound doesn’t change drastically for the second album, but matures a little.

“We are recreating our music at the moment, we are going to be the same band but we are maturing our sound,” he said.

“Everyone is involved, and you can really tell who helped in every song by the mood of it. Everyone in the band are completely different in so many ways and you can really hear their personalities. We have been putting a lot more emotion into writing this album.”

No release date has been set for the disc, but Jones hopes it will be completed and released by the end of 2012.
