Rocky View Sports Association marks end of basketball regular season

The Bert Church Chargers senior girls basketball team dropped its final regular season game, a 70-55 loss to the Chestermere Lakers, Feb. 19.

The junior girls Chargers team finished the regular season undefeated after topping the Lakers 39-24, Feb. 19.

The senior and junior boys Chargers teams played their final games Feb. 20, but results were not available at press time.

As of press time, playoff matchups had not been finalized, but the post-season begins Feb. 25 with the junior girls play-in

Swim Association

Swimmers from the Nose Creek Swim Association (NCSA) competed at the 2013 Western Canadian Swimming Championships. The meet was held in Saskatoon, Sask. Feb. 14 to 17.

Jonathan Brown – third in 17+ 800-metre freestyle, second in 17+ 200-metre individual medley

Mackenzie Ponting – ninth in 17+ 100-metre freestyle

Ken Stairs – third in 17+ 200-metre butterfly, fourth 17+ 50-metre breaststroke ‘C’ final, third in 17+ 200-metre individual medley

NCSA ‘A’ – fourth 4x200-metre men’s relay

NCSA ‘A’ – ninth in 4x100-metre men’s relay

AC Avalanche

The AC Avalanche midget AAA team split its two weekend games beginning with a 4-1 win over the NWCAA Stampeders, Feb. 16.

Zach Giroux had two goals and an assist in the win while Ty Milligan and Dylan McCuaig each added single tallies.

Giroux also had three assists in a 6-3 loss to Red Deer in Cochrane, Feb. 17. McCuaig scored his second goal of the weekend and Andrew McLeod and Kris LeClair scored the other two goals.

The Avalanche play its last game of the regular season Feb. 23 against the Lethbridge AAA Hurricanes in Cochrane. Game time is 5:15 p.m.

Matchups set

The playoff matchups have been set for the Airdrie Lightning peewee, bantam and midget AA teams.

The peewee Lightning will take on the Red Deer Parkland Feb. 22 in Red Deer while the bantam Lighting will host the Red Deer Ramada Feb. at the Ron Ebbesen Arena. Game time is 2 p.m. Dates and times for the midget Lightning games were not available at press time. Check future Airdrie City Views issues for updated scores.
