Shimmy with a leprechaun for the food bank
It’s that time of year again when we don our greatest green gear in honour of St. Patrick’s Day. This year you can get your green on for a good cause.
On March 16, the Airdrie Food Bank is hosting an adults-only Shamrock Shimmy at the Town and Country Centre starting at 6 p.m.
“People can expect an evening full of fun and frolic,” said Executive Director of the food bank Lori McRitchie.
She said there will be a performance by a group of Irish dancers, a live and silent auction with Mayor Peter Brown acting as the auctioneer for the live bidding, and a visit from the legendary sprite known as the leprechaun.
“There are going to be some great items up for auction,” McRitchie said, adding the food bank received a beautiful handmade quilt for the sale.
Dinner will be prepared by Carmen’s Kitchen, which is owned by Carmen Tuck, one of the original members to sit on the board for the Airdrie Food Bank. A cash bar will be open for the event.
Full Score Sound will be providing the soundtrack for the dance that will follow dinner.
Tickets are $45 per person with all the proceeds going directly to the non-profit organization.
Throughout the night attendees can get in on raffles, 50/50 tickets and draws for prizes.
This is the second year for the event, which is one of two major annual fundraisers for the food bank.
“It was just so much fun last year and we are expecting it to be a great night again,” said McRitchie.
Last year’s event raised $13,500 for the food bank. Tickets are available at the Airdrie Food Bank, Scotiabank on Main Street, Here’s the Scoop and Wizard’s Wardrobe.
