Every dog has its day with new food truck
Food trucks are all the rage now with television shows such as The Food Networks’ Eat St. and The Great Food Truck Race and food truck frenzies like the two offered at the Airdrie Farmer’s Market this year. But could the next trend in this craze be food trucks for dogs?
That is exactly what Iams is doing with their SO GOOD! Doggie Café and food truck, coming to Airdrie on Sept. 3, to the Airdrie Walmart.
“Up to today (food trucks) have only applied to humans,” said Iams Tour Manager Phil Louis. “We decided to up the ante and create a food truck for dogs with a café aspect.”
The mobile dog food unit is just like a food truck for human’s with a walk-up window to place orders – in this case of SO GOOD! free samples of the dog food - but with the added bonus of a café area where owners can sit and chat, and lots of dog-friendly activities.
“It’s a food truck just like any other but at the same time you get to relax with your dog,” Louis said. “Everything is 100 per cent free.”
The area features patches of grassy greens in front of the truck, a doggie food slot machine where owners can win prizes for their pooch, a small obstacle course for your dog and doggie snacks and treats.
“We want (dogs and their people) to not only come for the food but to stay for the activities,” Louis said.
The mobile pooch playground place also has photo opportunities for dogs and their owners.
Louis said the photo is printed right away for the proud puppy owners to take with them and comes in a cute Iams frame. He adds a digital copy of the picture will also be sent to the owner.
Food truck goers will receive coupons for the new line and lots of samples for pooch.
The doggie café recently made a stop in Winnipeg and Louis said the stop was a hit.
“Everybody was having fun. Owners were sitting down and talking with each other in the café. Dogs were having treats. It was really fun.”
