Library to welcome authors and artists during ARTember
As part of the Airdrie Public Library (APL) ARTember celebrations, we welcome artist Rylee Petkau, whose creativity in clay is on display along with Randy Batesí Illustrations exhibit until Oct. 31.
A longtime Airdrie resident, Petkau has expressed herself artistically in many forms, from acrylic painting to tattoo design and henna.
She continues to learn and expand her repertoire and her interests have taken her across Canada, as well as overseas to Europe and Africa.
Currently, she has a small pottery studio, and she teaches her art for several organizations in Airdrie and the Calgary area.
ARTember also marks the return of Georgia Graham, childrenís author and illustrator, who delights in sharing her experience and expertise. Canada Council for the Arts and Creative Airdrie have been instrumental in bringing the author to APL.
Her workshops for middle school students, set for Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., include readings from her books and hands-on drawing.
Grahamís books include Where Wild Horses Run, Here Comes Hortense and A Team Like No Other. Watch for Little Cubís Home, coming in spring 2014!
Also during ARTember, Airdrie writer Ellen Kelly will be hosting a writers workshop Sept. 27, 7 to 9 p.m., thanks to the support of the Writers Guild of Alberta.
An Airdrie resident for more than 30 years, Kelly writes fiction and creative non-fiction.
She is a regular contributor to several publications and newspapers, and also teaches creative writing for the Alexandra Writers Centre in Calgary.
The workshop will address the writing process with timely tips, writing exercises and discussion. Registration is required, which can be done on the APL website.
