Nominations open for separate school board
The Calgary Roman Catholic Separate School District No. 1 (CCSD) is seeking nominations for candidates interested in running for the board of trustees.
The nomination deadline for the election is Sept. 23 and must be received at The City of Calgary Council Chamber before noon that day.
The separate school board serves three schools in Airdrie: Our Lady Queen of Peace, St. Martin de Porres and Good Shepherd.
Our Lady Queen of Peace is a kindergarten to Grade 8 school located on First Avenue. St Martin de Porres is located on Yankee Valley Boulevard and serves Grade 9 to 12 students. Good Shepherd is also a kindergarten to Grade 8 school and is located on Thorburn Drive.
Linda Wellman, current trustee for Calgary Wards 3, 5 and Airdrie, has announced her intent to run for re-election to the board.
Wellman has served on the board of trustees for 24 years and is currently vice chair for the board.
During her many years with CCSD, Wellman has served as director of Catholic Charities, served as board chair from 1998 to 1999 and has served as vice chair for the Alberta Schools Boards’ Association (ASBA) Labour Board from 1990 to 1992.
Prior to joining the board she worked as a human resources coordinator in the oil and gas industry.
Wellman has three grown children who all graduated from CCSD and is a member of the St. Mark’s Catholic Women’s League.
