Culture minister to visit Airdrie library as part of ARTember
This weekend, Airdrie is playing host to a very special visitor. On Sept. 28 from 9 to 10 a.m., Alberta Culture Minister Heather Klimchuk will be at the Miller Street Art Gallery in Nose Creek Park as part of her tour of Alberta Culture Days activities.
“The minister really wanted to fit Airdrie into her schedule,” said Sherry Shaw-Froggett, Creative Airdrie vice president. “We plan to teach her how to do aerosol art and meet artists from the community, then tour the park.”
Airdrie Public Library (APL) will be on hand to welcome Klimchuk, as she gets a taste of the community’s vibrant arts and culture scene.
The minister’s visit kicks off a busy day with lots of activities as part of the city’s three-day Culture at the Creek celebration. There will be plenty of free activities – live music, theatrical and multicultural performances; artists; crafting; kites; quilts; and food – and APL is excited to be part of the fun. Throughout Saturday, everyone is invited to APL’s reading tent to enjoy stories for children (of all ages). Along with all the other fabulous Culture at the Creek activities, the library is pleased to be able to offer a special experience with creative words. Feel free to drop by any time between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
A reminder to the community: As part of our ongoing facility needs assessment, HarGroup Consulting will soon be conducting a random telephone survey in order to get more input from the community. Please answer the phone if you see HarGroup calling between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. We need your input on a new library facility.
