RCMP take down marijuana grow operation in Big Springs
The Airdrie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) seized approximately $22,000 of drugs from a residence in the Big Springs neighbourhood in Airdrie on Sept. 12.
The home contained a small marijuana grow operation consisting of 13 plants and two pounds of marijuana. A quantity of cocaine and cash were also seized on site.
Christopher Kurta, a 35-year-old man from Airdrie, and Karen Pedden, a 32-year-old woman from Airdrie were arrested and are both facing criminal charges including Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Production of a Controlled Substance.
The arrests were made possible thanks to a call from a concerned resident, according to RCMP Cst. Rob Frizzell.
“The CRU was made aware of this by a concerned citizen,” said Frizzell. “Through an investigation, they were able to obtain and execute a search warrant that led to these arrests. It is a positive outcome from the community and RCMP working together.”
Both Kurta and Pedden are scheduled to appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on Oct. 17.
Anyone with information on an unsolved crime is asked to contact the Airdrie RCMP at 403-945-7222 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
