Resident confused, offended by slate
I’ve read with interest the information about Team Airdrie United. It’s left me surprised, confused and more than a little offended.
There are many, many things wrong with the concept of a block, or slate, running for municipal politics. One being that municipalities have run successfully for decades with no party system. It should cause every Airdrie resident great concern to have four people hold the power on City council. I would want to be very sure that I understand and agree with each members stance on all of the issues before I vote for them.
Team Airdrie United has cited “joint marketing” as a reason for their formation. I’m not buying a used car, I’m voting for people who are responsible for my tax dollars and the well-being of my community. Don’t “market” to me – tell me who you are and what you stand for – and please, be honest.
And finally, I have a hard time believing Team Airdrie United are the only candidates “putting Airdrie first.” Why would you run for council otherwise? It’s a demanding, often thankless, and low-paying job.
I’m confident each person who is ultimately elected to council will be part of a united team. That’s what local government is all about.
