Airdrie Fire Department responds to kitchen fire in Cooper's Crossing
The Airdrie Fire Department (AFD) responded to a structure fire at 135 Coopers Hill in Airdrie on Oct. 2 at approximately 6:15 p.m.
The residents of the home were able to douse the fire and limit damage with their home fire extinguisher. Once on the scene, AFD crews worked quickly to ventilate the home and check the area for fire extensions.
Smoke and heat damage done to the kitchen as a result of the fire is estimated at $1,500. No injuries were reported.
An AFD investigator was able to determine that the fire originated from grease in a wok that was on the stove.
Oct. 5 to Oct. 11 is Fire Prevention Week and AFD Deputy Chief Linda Masson said in a press release that she wants to remind the public of the importance of being attentive and safe while cooking and that kitchen fires remain one of the leading causes of fire in the home.
The theme of this year’s Fire Prevention week is Prevent Kitchen Fires.
