MLA congratulates all candidates in election
I want to congratulate each of our new Airdrie City council members on their election wins this past Monday. Kelly Hegg, Ron Chapman, Fred Burley, and Al Hunter worked exceptionally hard, not only during the election, but even more importantly during the three years since they were elected in 2010. Their dedication was clearly reflected in the final result.
Council newcomer Darrell Belyk is an inspirational person on multiple levels and I am entirely confident he will become a pillar of our council for many years. I also look forward to working with local business woman Candice Kolson. I am sure she will bring a very fresh perspective to the City, which is always a good thing.
I also want to congratulate our Mayor Peter Brown on his acclimation. He is one of the most community-oriented individuals I have ever met. He works tirelessly for our City, he sacrifices an incredible amount of time to support every local event or initiative big or small, and he is always willing to lend a hand. He was the first person I called to help set up the Airdrie Health Foundation, and much of the groupís progress is directly due to him. Regardless of what he decides to do in his future politically, I will always consider him a friend and a great individual.
Although I have differing opinions on a few issues with some current council members, that doesnít change the great respect I have for them, nor how much I look forward to working with them on improving Airdrie moving forward.
Finally, I want to congratulate each and every candidate who did not win last Monday for having the courage to step forward and run for public office. Campaigns can be tough, personal, exhausting and frustrating experiences with many highs and lows. It takes a special type of person to brave that environment in order to add their voice to the marketplace of ideas. Advocating those ideas has strengthened our community, and I am sure, will influence at least some of the decision making of council; and for that, you and your supporters should be very proud of what you have accomplished.
Airdrie has spoken for another four years. Letís roll up our sleeves and get to work for our great City!
