Airdrie Farmers Market wraps up season with Christmas Show
Airdrie was blanketed in snow early this week, an indicator that winter is around the corner with Christmas not far behind.
The city’s residents can get into the spirit of the season early at the Airdrie Farmers Market’s third annual Christmas Show, happening Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 at the Town and Country Centre.
Some market favourites including Tim’s Pizza, Cowboy Popcorn, The Bread Lady and Ukrainian Fine Foods will be joined by Christmas-specific vendors from Airdrie, Calgary and Red Deer who will be selling ornaments, wreaths and an assortment of Christmas decorations.
Airdrie Farmers Market Manager Candice Kolson expects at least 60 vendors to be on hand at the market’s wrap-up event until their April Spring Fling - a sneak peek at the summer season for the farmers market.
“This Christmas show is a unique event that supports the community,” said Kolson.
“It’s always good when people come out to support our local events and to keep people shopping in Airdrie.”
The Christmas show is a supporter of the Airdrie Food Bank which helped raise more than $15,000 in monetary and food donations for the food bank last year.
“We take donations in place of admission, whether people want to make a monetary donation or bring in a bag of food, it all goes to the Airdrie Food Bank,” said Kolson.
Airdrie Food Bank Executive Director Lori McRitchie says that this is one of their most substantial fundraising events of the year.
“It’s a big deal for us, this is a really important time of the year for us to have our shelves stocked,” said McRitchie.
“We’re actually running quite low right now so we’re grateful to the whole community for putting on and supporting events like this.”
Gifts & More will be operating the concessions which will be available to everyone who attends. The Christmas Show’s hours will be from, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov.1 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 2.
