Just in time for the holidays, Cedarwood Station Retirement Residence is hosting a Christmas fair for its residents and the public on Nov. 30.
“It’s our kickoff to the holiday season,” said Kim Magarvey, lifestyle manager at Cedarwood.
“Our seniors have participated in and gone to craft sales before, but those are often overwhelming to seniors. This allows us to provide a smaller-scale and closer-to-home event so they can still participate,” she said.
The free Sugar Plum Fair is open to the public and begins at 10:30 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. The event will feature vendors showcasing their Christmas crafts, handiworks, children’s items, cooking items and more.
Treats and hot apple cider will be available at the event and guests will be reminded of holiday’s past as festive music is played.
“Our residents have their own table with crafts and other things they’ve made throughout the year,” Magarvey said.
From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., participants can catch a ride back in time on the horse and sleigh rides through Fletcher Park with Calgary-based Horsin’ Around Trail Rides. They will also have the chance to visit with Santa Claus, as he will be on hand to bring smiles to residents throughout the building.
Magarvey said though there will not be a designated place to take a photo with Jolly Old St. Nick, there is plenty of holiday décor throughout the main reception hall where the event will be held, for those wanting a photo to take one.
“It’s just a great day to come out and enjoy some Christmas festivities and get to know your neighbours,” Magarvey said.
